佛列德是一隻羊，他跟其他的羊沒有什麼不同。
Fred was a sheep, no different from all the other sheep.

他喜歡吃鮮脆的綠草，和黃色的小花。
他有一對又大又軟的耳朵，全身上下都毛茸茸的。
He liked to eat crispy grass and yellow flowers.
He had big floppy ears and usually heaps of fluffy wool.

不過，佛列德有個小地方跟其他的羊兒都不同：
佛列德總是覺得冷，無論何時何地。
However, there was one small thing that made Fred different from
the other sheep: Fred froze. Always and everywhere.

不管是寒冬還是酷暑，佛列德都覺得好冷。
Fred froze in winter and in summer.

不管身上的毛是稀疏還是濃密，佛列德都覺得好冷。
It made no difference if his fleece was thick or thin.

當夜晚降臨的時候，寒冷的感覺尤其強烈。
It was particularly bad at night.

佛列德的朋友們也不了解他。他們都認為，在厚厚的毛皮包裏下，
佛列德應該要、也必須要感覺無比溫暖才是。
Fred's friends did not understand him. They all thought, wrapped up
in all that wool, Fred must just feel wonderfully warm.


日子一久，佛列德越來越難過。
對於自己感到寒冷這件事，他已經厭煩到極點。
只是，偏偏所有可能會讓他再度溫暖起來的方法，他又都試遍了。
As time went by Fred became very sad.
He was fed up with being cold.
But he had tried simply everything to get warm again.

他跟牧羊人哈瑞借了一件超保暖的、手工編織的套頭毛線衣。
He had borrowed an extra-warm hand-knitted pullover from Harry the shepherd.

但是，沒有用。就算他還戴上了一頂很相稱的帽子，依舊沒有用。
But that didn't  help. Not even when he wore a matching hat.

佛列德喝了一大堆熱巧克力。
Fred drank lots of hot chocolate.

可是，他只撐大了一個肚子，佛列德還是覺得好冷。
But all he got from that was a big full tummy.
Fred still froze.

有一天晚上，為了取暖，佛列德緊緊挨著營火睡覺。
One night, in order to get warm, he slept really close to the camp fire.

可是，他身上的毛兒著了火，當牧羊人哈瑞幫他把火熄滅了之後，
佛列德更因全身的毛兒被燒得所剩無幾，而感到更加寒冷。
But his fleece caught fire. When Harry had finally managed to put it out,
Fred froze even more in what was left of his wool.

佛列德也試過和他最喜歡的塑膠小鴨洗個熱騰騰的泡泡浴……。
Fred even took a hot bubble bath......with a rubber duck.

洗完泡泡浴之後，佛列德聞起來比週遭任何一隻羊兒都還要香。
可是他冷顫還是打個不停。
After that Fred smelt better than any other sheep around.
But it still did not put an end to his shivering.

可憐的佛列德。他難過地站在小牧場裡，不停的發抖，嚼著牧草無助地思索，
到底該怎麼辦呢?
Poor Fred. He stood sadly and shivering in the paddock and chewed
helplessly on a blade of grass. Waht could he do?

正當佛列德在考慮著如果他飛向溫暖的太陽會怎麼樣的時候，
他最好的朋友葛文走過來跟他打招呼。
葛文馬上就注意到佛列德好像很悲傷。
Just as Fred was thinking about what would happen if he flew up
to the warm sun, his best Friend Gwen came over to say hello.
Gwen noticed immediately that Fred was very sad.

佛列德把穿特暖毛衣、猛喝熱巧克力、緊靠著營火睡覺、和洗熱騰騰泡泡浴，
可是一樣都無助於解決他寒冷的事說給了葛文聽、聽得葛文垂下了耳朵，也好傷心。
Fred told her about the extra-warm pullover, the cocoa, the campfire and the bubble bath that nothing had helped to cure him from feeling cold. Gwen ears hung with sadness.

為了要轉移注意力，他們躺在草地上仰望天空，
玩起「猜猜那朵雲像什麼」的遊戲。真的很好玩，
不一會兒，佛列德便覺得好些了。
有一瞬間，佛列德甚至把問題拋到了腦後。
In order to distract themselves, they lay in the grass and
looked up at the sky and played"guess the cloud animal".
That was a lot of fun and soon Fred felt much better.
For a short while Fred even forgot about his problem.

當太陽逐漸落下地平線時，葛文也準備要回家了。
佛列德和葛文緊緊地擁抱著彼此。
因為佛列德看起來是如此的悲傷，
葛文就在他的鼻子上結結實實的印下重重的一吻。
As the sun sank slowly on the horizon, Gwen got ready to go home.
Fred and Gwen hugged each other tightly and
because Fred was looking particularly sad ,
Gwen gave him a big fat kiss on his nose.

突然，佛列德胃裡頭一陣奇怪的緊縮。
Suddenly Fred had a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach......

……就像蝴蝶飛過……一種刺激的、酥酥癢癢的感覺……
......like butterflies......an exciting tickly feeling......

……在這一瞬間，他竟然覺得越來越溫暖！
......and all of a sudden, he felt warmer and warmer!

終於: 佛列德不再感到寒冷
And then at last: Fred froze no more.

「噢! 這實在是太棒了!」 佛列德興奮地大叫，並給了葛文一個毛茸茸的擁抱
"Oh! it's just wonderfull!", cried Fred and gave Gwen a woolly hug.

「嘿，佛列德，我跟你說喔，」葛文湊近佛列德柔軟的耳邊輕聲細語道:
「在我的肚子裡，還有很多蝴蝶呢!」 「這樣阿，」
佛列德回答:「在我的肚子裡啊，也有很多很多的蝴蝶喔，而且，我現在覺得溫暖得不得了。」
"Hey, Fred", Gwen whispered into his floppy ear "i have butterflies in my tummy!"
"Well," said Fred, "I have LOTS of butterflies in my tummy and I feel wonderfully warm!"

然後，佛列德和葛文緊緊擁抱在一起，感覺有越來越多的蝴蝶在他們的肚子裡飛舞著
So Fred and Gwen gave each other another hug and felt even more
butterflies in their stummies.

他們是如此地深愛著對方，佛列德從此以後再也不覺得冷了。
葛文時時刻刻陪伴著佛列德，佛列德也總在葛文身旁。
They both love each other very much and Fred no longer freezes.
Gwen is always there at his side and Fred is always at Gwen's side.

所以，當你覺得寒冷悲傷，請想想佛列德和葛文，
記得給你的所愛一個擁抱，一個深長的擁抱。
So when YOU feel cold and sad, then just remember Fred and Gwen
and give someone you love a hug, a big long hug.

愛一個人，是世界上最美好，最溫暖的感覺。
Loving someone is the nicest and warmest feeling there is.
